This article is really just a way for me to claim my “been-here-since-the-beginning” ticket for Dogpark. Dogpark is a band of five with no official music released together but plenty of growing presence. The band has a series of six covers out on Youtube, among many local performances, and I discovered their Amy Winehouse cover first. Valerie is a true classic, and I was happy to see that the members of Dogpark did it more than justice. The vocals and instrumentation were, of course, great, but what I truly loved was the fact that it didn’t feel like a cover. Dogpark took “Valerie,” put their spin on it, and made it their own.

The Amy Winehouse performance was too good not to watch the others, and I was pleased to see a wide selection of songs. Hall & Oates, Stevie Wonder, and Artic Monkeys all made their list of covers, and each one was done insanely well. The vocals, guitars, drums, solos, and, most of all, band chemistry all came together to make each cover thoroughly enjoyable to watch. Their cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” is my favorite of the six by far.
I figured I needed to check out their original music since the covers were so good, but nothing came up on Spotify. I checked on Instagram and was met with a notice that their music was coming soon. Needless to say, I am looking forward to listening to whatever they drop, but for now, we’ll just have to survive on their covers. This is definitely a band to check out and to be aware of. When they blow up, which they will, I’m for sure circling back to this article as proof that I’ve been here since the beginning.
